The hotel is located in area of Stockholm called Sodermalm, which is very lively. The hotel is a short distance from the main shopping district and near the famous old town, Gamla Stan. An underground station next to the hotel means the city centre is within easy reach (just 3 - 4 stops).

The Scandic Malmen hotel is housed in a medium sized, purpose-built building that is relatively non-descript in appearance, but fits in well with the architecture of the surrounding area. The 327 medium sized guest rooms are decorated in a traditional Scandinavian style, with brown leather seating, glass tiling and chandeliers. All the rooms are comfortable and in good condition, as are the en suite bathrooms. The hotel's restaurant is open from Monday to Saturday. It offers an international à la carte menu alongside Malmen's classic menu of: canapé with shrimps, smoked salmon and horseradish mayonnaise; beef tenderloin "Moulin Rouge"; and deep-fried Camembert with warm cloudberries. There is also a light, airy coffe shop which offers a choice of pasta, a business lunch, the meal of the day, and a vegetarian alternative.
